Color, rhythm, and improvisation come together in this small abstract mosaic inspired by Wassily Kandinsky. Artist Rovensky Alcin used found shards of tile to build an energetic composition beneath the porch of a Cherry Street residence.

The mosaic was fabricated off site and then installed on the porch posts. Kandinsky often connected abstract art with music, especially the emerging sounds of jazz, and that spirit of improvisation carried into the making of this piece. Rather than following one fixed solution, Alcin responded to the shapes of the tile fragments as the composition developed.
