Imagine a city made entirely of books. Where row homes look like encyclopedia sets, trains puff pages, and you can float down a river of words. Welcome to The City of Reading, designed and painted by the neighborhood youth and staff of the Northeast Library.

About the Project
Created in connection with the Reading Public Museum’s Keith Haring exhibition, the project invited neighborhood youth and community volunteers to imagine reading as an entire cityscape. Familiar urban forms were transformed through book imagery, giving the mural a whimsical identity that connects the city’s name with the act of reading itself.
