About the Project
This project began with a phone call from former Reading mayor, and Reutlingen Partnership organizer, Thomas McMahon. Tom invited us to participate in a street art festival in Reutlingen, Germany (Reading's Sister City). As the focus of our work is always collaborative, the theme of our shared cultural symbol, the pretzel, was used as inspiration for a collection of small paintings. Local artists, and student artists helped paint the collection, and Josh Brightbill travelled to Reutlingen to represent Reading at the festival and install the collection as part of the festival.
Inspired by this project, Reutlingen art teacher Suzanna Immer organized a collection with her students and sent them back to us in Reading. They are included in the Berks Pretzel Collection.
