Healing Hands

About the Project

The project began through the hospital’s wayfinding efforts after the main entrance moved to Fifth Avenue. Students developed the design from photographs of hands expressing care and healing, then worked alongside members of a Sacred Heart Church seniors group to paint the mural. The finished work combines public art with orientation, creating a landmark in a place where visitors may already be under stress.

The design of the mural began with photographs of hands expressing the idea of caring and healing. The project's fabrication was coordinated through the Public Art Workshop, and a seniors group from Sacred Heart Church was invited to class to paint along with the students. The students later helped to install the mural on site.
