West Reading Is...

This mural began with a question. "What do you see when you think of West Reading?" The final design used the community's responses, an anamorphic design, and inspiration from a famous mural by artist Gustav Klimt.

About the Project

This piece was the first artwork created in the new "mural corridor" on Cherry Street. Over the next 6 years, the three blocks between 4th and 7th Avenues would be filled with 30 different projects.

Exquisite Fource is a group of 4 local artists who function as a collective, often embedding elements of chance and random determination into the desig of their work. After discussing the unique qualities of the site, and the overall process, the community and students in the Public Art Workshop all made individual contributions to the project design.

What is an anamorph?

An anamorph is an image we can see when looking at a surface at an angle, instead of straight on. Standing at the 6th Ave. end of the wall you will see a large blue W (you're facing West). When you stand at the 7th Ave. end, you will see a large R (you're facing Reading).
