About the Project

Stonecliffe Recreation Area sits along the Tulpehocken Creek and is a great resource for the community.  The park pavilion had been the site of vandalism multiple times, so the idea of a mural was approached by many with skepticism.  The local youth of Glenside were involved in the painting of the pavilion over a series of community paint events.  This has proven to be a good anti-graffiti method.  After 12 years, the walls show more signs of weather damage than anything else.

A fresh face

In the Spring of 2023, the Berks County Parks Department asked if the murals could be restored.  With the help of community volunteers and Park Staff, the walls were scraped and primed and the missing portions were replaced.  A fresh coat of exterior varnish over the finished painting gives another barrier to the elements.  Let's hope this restoration gives the mural another 12 years!
